"PATEROS" BOOK WILL SOON BE HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!

Mayor Joey C. Medina is very happy to announce that the much-awaited coffee table book, “Pateros" by Elmer I. Nocheseda will soon be out of the press. It is a handsome 10"x 10" book of 280 pages that was created from decades of meticulous study and research in museums, archives, libraries, and private collections here and abroad. It is full of pictures about Pateros, its balutan, customs and traditions, the Pateros River, and the lively Santa Marta fiesta. Some photographs are very rare and old and even date from 1830s. The old Spanish maps date from 1700s.

It is a treasure chest of Pateros jewels that make the town proud. It is a veritable collection of facts and trivia about Pateros. It traces the history of Pateros from its foundation before the coming of the Spaniards as well as the early beginnings of the balut making, duck raising and the chinelas de alfombra industries that made the town famous all over the world.

The book is a product of pleasant surprises. The Huntahang Bayan provided the venue and the vigor for the town’s Senior Citizens to meet and work together to gather their thoughts to write and publish this book.  An enthusiastic crowd of batang-Pateros and laking-Pateros, barring all physical ailments, poor eyesight, and failing earshot have all gathered with enviable energy and vigor to join us in the Huntahang Bayan held at the Villa Monica on August 19 and 21, 2008, and at the Pateros Elementary School on September 4, 2008.
